# Documents arrive.
Salesforce records stay useful.

Map extracted fields to an accessible Salesforce object. Create a record, update a matching record, or upsert by an external ID.

Example - custom order object

Your selected Salesforce object determines the actual fields available.

## Update the right Salesforce record.

Map document data to writable fields on your selected Salesforce object. For upsert, an eligible external-ID field identifies the record to update.

1. 1Select the Salesforce object.
2. 2Map the document fields and record identifier.
3. 3Upsert the record using the configured external ID.

## Choose the record operation explicitly

Native Salesforce actions

Action

Record behavior

Matching requirement

Create

Creates a record in the selected object

Map the required writable fields

Update

Updates an existing matching record

Select and map an eligible match field

Upsert

Updates a match or creates a record

Select and map a Salesforce external-ID field

The connected account's permissions and object metadata determine what you can select. Not every object supports every action.

## Keep record identity in the mapping

Example - recurring customer order documents

1. 01Extract PO reference
2. 02Map it to an external-ID field
3. 03Upsert the selected Salesforce object

A stable reference gives the workflow a way to identify the same business record across documents. For upsert, use an external-ID field in Salesforce and map its value from DigiParser.

A single object export is not a complete multi-object order transaction. Configure the object and fields that your workflow requires; use a custom integration when you need several dependent record operations.

## Set up the Salesforce destination

1. 01

    ### Add Export to Salesforce

Open the parser's Integrations page and add Salesforce under Direct exports.

2. 02

    ### Connect the Salesforce account

Authorize the connection and confirm that this account can access the intended object and fields.

3. 03

    ### Select an object and action

Choose the Salesforce object, then Create, Update, or Upsert according to the workflow.

4. 04

    ### Configure matching where required

For Update or Upsert, select the eligible match field and map it to a parser value. Upsert requires an external-ID field.

5. 05

    ### Map writable fields

Map at least one writable field beyond the match key. Complete required fields for record creation and check expected types.

6. 06

    ### Save and inspect a sample record

Process a representative document, complete required review, and inspect the actual Salesforce record and its identifying value.

## Workflows built around Salesforce objects

### Customer order intake

Extract PO headers into an appropriate order-tracking object. Use a stable PO reference for updates or upsert when configured.

### Application processing

Map application details into the object your team uses for applicant tracking. Match against a known external reference.

### Service document updates

Extract service or claim fields and update the related object using a mapped matching value. Confirm that the match identifies the intended record.
